Readers deserve to know where information comes from and who paid for it. This page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to.
1. Independence
Editorial decisions are made solely by the editorial team. Advertisers, ad networks and game publishers have no influence over what we cover or what we conclude, receive no advance copy, and cannot request that content be changed or removed on commercial grounds.
2. Sourcing
- Scientific claims are based on peer-reviewed literature in ethology, veterinary science, genetics or archaeology, or on institutional publications from universities, the FAO or national agricultural bodies.
- Where research is preliminary, contested or based on a small sample, we say so in the text rather than presenting it as settled fact.
- Historical claims reflect current scholarly consensus; where consensus has recently shifted, we note the older view.
- Game coverage is based on hands-on play, not on press releases or publisher marketing copy.
3. Fact-checking
Every article is checked against its sources before publication. Numbers, dates and named studies are verified individually. Anything we cannot verify is either removed or explicitly flagged as uncertain.
4. Corrections
We correct errors promptly and visibly.
- Minor fixes (typos, broken links, formatting) are made silently.
- Factual corrections are made in the text and noted at the foot of the article with the date and a description of what changed.
- Major corrections that change an article's conclusion are additionally flagged at the top of the page.
Report an error to corrections@optinrouteoravex.org. Please include the page URL and the specific claim.
5. Advertising and commercial content
Advertising is served programmatically and is visually distinct from editorial content. Any sponsored article or affiliate link is labelled at the top of the page before the reader encounters it. We decline advertising for gambling, betting and real-money gaming services.
6. Use of AI tools
We use AI-assisted tools for drafting support, copy-editing and generating the original illustrations on this Site. Every published claim is reviewed and verified by a human editor against primary sources before it goes live. We do not publish unreviewed machine-generated text, and AI output is never treated as a source.
7. Animal welfare stance
We write about chickens as intelligent, sentient animals, and our husbandry content reflects welfare-first practice. We do not publish content promoting cockfighting, neglect or any activity that causes avoidable suffering.
8. Reader privacy
We collect the minimum data needed to run and fund the Site, and we ask for consent before any advertising or analytics cookie is set. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
9. Feedback
Suggestions, criticism and topic requests are welcome at editor@optinrouteoravex.org.
